If you like to read Magazines but have been complaining that they are expensive and much of a hassle to keep them around (especially after reading what you need from them plus not a very good environmental approach), you can check out these two online magazine subscriptions site – CoverLeaf & Zinio.

Magazines Are Not That Cheap With Local Distributors

If you are an Entrepreneur or on the way to becoming one, you will definitely have came across or are reading magazines like Inc, Fast Company and Entrepreneur. These magazines share good insights, interviews, tips on how others have succeeded in their business startups and how you can do so as well.

And if you are getting them from Local Bookstores, you will be getting the Printed Versions on an average price of SGD $10 (if I remember correctly, Inc Magazine is around $11.50 and Fast Company Magazine is around $10.50). Most of the time when you grab your hands on them, the physical state of them is quite sad (most of them are tattered by the time I reach to them – but then again that could be only me…)

I would say this is not a Bad Deal… even if you choose to have the Printed + Digital Version, you are still paying around USD $3 lesser. Though you may be getting your read through a Browser (on your Desktop, iPad or Android Tablets) minus off getting specific features of an App, I would still say this is a better deal.

And if you are looking for the Fashion Magazine… This is the Price from Zinio

Should you be paying for the Printed version, you would have paid $60 for the 5 issues (plus the fact that you may not be getting any free gifts with each issue).

Given the fact that most people are at least holding onto an iPad or an Android Tablet, I would see that this is a new way of reading your favorite magazines and at the same time help to save the environment by cutting down on the number of trees chopped to print these magazines out.

Plus the fact that most of these Apps or Online Magazine Sites do provide features that allow you to share easily online what you like on the Magazines!

So I do help these two resources are worth checking out and at the same time they do help you to save some money.

In June 2011, engineers in Singapore took a big step into the future when they launched an electric vehicle test-bed right in the heart of Singapore. The goal of the test-bed, created by a government task force including the Energy Market Authority and the Land Transport Authority, is to determine what works best when it comes to electric vehicles and charging station infrastructure. Being a highly urban area with plenty of city roads to work with, Singapore is an ideal testing location for this technology before unveiling it for the general public to purchase and utilize.

This is important technology to begin testing because electric vehicles offer consumers a new option when it comes to reducing energy and, of course, combating the ever-rising cost of fuel. The test-bed is providing an opportunity for Singaporeans to see which electric cars will work best in mainstream society and just how quickly and efficiently these vehicles will recharge. In some vehicles, the braking mechanism produces kinetic energy that automatically recharges the battery. Other vehicles include high-efficiency charging systems that allow them to fully recharge in an hour or less.

Another highlight of the test-bed in Singapore is that it will help determine where to install charging stations and how many are necessary to support widespread use of electric vehicles in the area. This is an important infrastructural aspect for engineers to consider, as the emergence of electric vehicles will be a game changer for many businesses. The current test-bed model allows test drivers to have charging stations located near their homes or places of business, which cost them $180 per month to utilize.

While engineers still have a ways to go in the mainstream development of electric vehicles, Singapore is taking a big step into the future by using an experimental test-bed to see first-hand how this technology will measure up in our busy world. In the meantime, drivers should continue to take proper care of their current gas-powered vehicles in order to maximize their performance and minimize their environmental impact. Stop by your local Mobil lube change center and store for regular tune-ups, and insist on premium products like Mobil fully-synthetic oil to keep your engine running as smoothly and cleanly as possible. This will help increase your car’s efficiency and reduce its polluting carbon emissions while we wait to see how the electric vehicle test-bed pans out in Singapore.

Something That I Like About Yipit

I was just surfing around and looking at those many Daily Deals sites that are coming out and finding ways to give my emails away… and the only issue that I have with most of these sites is that they send all sorts of daily deals to my inbox and those that are relevant to me are sometimes buried in one of those deal boxes…

For Yipit… the initial signing up part is kind of refreshing because this site allows me to choose deals that are relevant to my interests. Just check out this screenshot:

This is the part that I like because it seems like Yipit cares about what you like and they will send deals that are related to your interests… and they even…

Yup! Yipit allows you to input locations (deals around a particular place, e.g. workplace or your home) so that they are send you deals that you can apply at a place that’s near you!

Most of the Daily Deal Sites that I am in… have a lot of deals that are located in the Western Region when I am working in the Central and staying in the North East Region. Less chances for me to go there despite the fact that Singapore is actually very small and travelling around is not that time-consuming at all.

But nonetheless, it’s good to have such a site like Yipit around, and I do hope that some of the daily deal sites can have this feature of letting me sort through the categories or the places that I get to see special deals…

I do not know if you agree with me, but I seriously think that this Planet49.com.sg is quite a spammy site.

Why do I say so? You are basically giving your precious contact information like Name and Precious Email Address in exchange for a chance to “win $10,000 worth of vouchers” and also a ton of other emails that will be sent out by their “partners”.

Other Signs That I Feel That The Site Is Spammy

Once you are over at that site, you will be hit by Pop-Ups. And in case that you do not know, these Pop-Ups will let this company earn some pocket money in exchange for the views generated by these Pop-Ups.

And if the vouchers are not attracting you, you may be tempted to hit this image button:

The next moment… you will be presented with a chance to “win an iPad 2″ and amidst those fine little prints, you get these chunk of little requirements:

You will need to answer a series of questions that cost you $3.00 for each question sent and if you feel so smart, you may as well be spending your way up to the maximum $500 – and you are already paying for half of an iPad 2. Bring in another person who is smart in answering, and that iPad 2 is already paid for…

And a few more… and they will be contributing to the annual revenue of the company for that year… also not forgetting your precious phone number is already being released to the partners who will try to contact you to entice you to get more of their stuffs…

Why Am I Highlighting About This Site

Seriously I do not believe that there is such a thing as Free Lunch. Creating such a gimmick site so that you will be willing to give away your email address (and most likely you will give away an email address that you will be accessing most of the time because you do not want to “miss out” in being a “winner”) is not going to do you good.

You are just making life easier for that company and their partners because they get to collect your email address without doing anything that’s beneficial. In return, you will be receiving more and more emails from them.

I would rather join sites like EmailCashPro that pays you to read emails. Though the earnings from each email is little, at least you are still seeing some form of returns with each read and with each click.

I May Be Wrong…

Like I have said, I think that this kind of site is spammy but to you, you may have gotten some real good deals out from it. If you are one of those lucky fews, I do hope that you can share your comments here and let others know more about it.

If you do agree that this kind of site is spammy, I do hope that you will not join and you can ask you friends not to do so as well. And given a few months, this kind of site may just disappear like those many others.

And if you can create SmartPhone Apps, I read from the site that you can get some of the APIs, implement into your Apps and make some good money out from it. Again I do not really have all the details so it’s best for you to check them out today.
